Not all children are ready to learn the same thing at the same time in the same way.

At Hillsmeade, we acknowledge this fact and work to personalise our teaching and learning to cater for the individual need of our students.

Personalised Learning Approach

The Hillsmeade Personalised Learning Approach is strongly based on the idea that all children are not ready to learn the same thing at the same time in the same way, therefore we use a research based pedagogy that personalises and engages students in active learning alongside explicit and formalised instruction.

At Hillsmeade, we recognise the need for children to be active participants in their learning through goal setting, hands-on investigation, questioning and skill practice opportunities. We explicitly teach and develop skills in literacy and numeracy and also encourage the development of vital social, emotional and life skills.

Professional Learning Teams

Hillsmeade Primary School utilises Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) across teaching level teams. Our teaching teams are led by PLT Leaders who facilitate rich, purposeful, collaborative meetings to meet the learning needs of students in their year levels. These teams meet weekly to have professional, data-driven conversations about teaching and learning.

Committees

Hillsmeade Primary School uses vertical committee teams in the areas of:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • ICT & Assessment
  • Science
  • Welfare

These teams include a member from each year Level PLT and are led by members of the school Leadership Team. These teams meet regularly within staff meeting time to prioritise, action and implement a range of whole school priorities. These vertical teams allow for rich collaboration across a large staff to ensure consultation, collective commitment and consistency.
