Welcome to the Hillsmeade Primary BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program. To ensure your child can fully participate in all educational activities, it’s essential that their iPad is equipped with the necessary software. This guide will walk you through installing Microsoft 365 (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Minecraft Education, Sketchbook, and the NAP Lockdown Browser.

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure your iPad is updated to the latest version of iOS.
  • Have your Apple ID and password ready.
  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection.

Step 1: Install Microsoft 365 Apps

  1. Download Microsoft Office Apps:
    • Open the App Store on your iPad.
    • Search for “Microsoft 365” or each app individually (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Tap “Get” next to each app, then “Install.”
    • Enter your Apple ID password or use Touch/Face ID if prompted.
  2. Sign In:
    • Open each Microsoft app after installation.
    • Sign in with your child’s school-provided email and password.

Step 2: Install Minecraft Education

  1. Download Minecraft Education:
    • Go to the App Store.
    • Search for “Minecraft Education” and select it.
    • Tap “Get,” then “Install,” and authenticate if required.
  2. Sign In:
    • Open Minecraft Education once installed.
    • Sign in with your child’s school-provided email and password.

Step 3: Install Sketchbook

  1. Download Sketchbook:
    • Visit the App Store.
    • Search for “Sketchbook” and select it.
    • Click “Get,” then “Install.”
  2. Create an Account (if needed):
    • Open Sketchbook.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to create an account or sign in.

Step 4: Install NAP Lockdown Browser (Year 5 students only)

  1. Download NAP Lockdown Browser:
  2. Access the App Store.
  3. Search for “NAP Lockdown Browser.”
  4. Tap “Get” and “Install.”
  5. Setup:
    • There’s no need to sign in; the app will be configured for use during NAP assessments.

Step 5: Installing iMovie

  1. Download iMovie:
  2. Search for iMovie in the App Store and tap ‘Get’ to install.
  3. After installation, open iMovie to ensure it’s working correctly.

General Tips:

  • App Updates: Regularly check the App Store for updates to keep all apps functioning correctly.
  • Storage Space: Ensure sufficient space on your iPad for all installations. You may need to clear unused apps or data.
  • Family iPad Controls:  Allow students to access their devices from 8:30 – 3:30 on school days.
