What is the SRC?
The SRC (Student Representative Council) upholds and supports the Hillsmeade Primary School vision, values and school goals. The purpose of the SRC is to empower students by providing them with the opportunity to participate in decision-making at Hillsmeade Primary School. SRC represent the school from Years 2-6 and promotes student agency across the school. SRC provides a group of students with opportunities for active participation, engagement, leadership and learning. It allows the student voice to be heard and students’ interests and concerns to be considered.
Student engagement
The SRC also help celebrate Education Week and Children’s Week throughout the year. They organise and supervise fun lunchtime activities for students across all year levels.
School Improvement
We organise fund-raising events to raise money to improve the school facilities. The Gaga Pit has recently been installed, and the idea originated from the Year 5 cohort who had played the game at a camp. Students engaged in authentic, persuasive writing and a presentation to convince school leadership to build this permanent facility. Year levels from 1-6 are now enjoying playing this game at recess and lunch.
Community Impact
SRC also coordinates various fundraising events to help our community, supporting the school’s vision to be global citizens. These events include:
- Crazy Sock Day to support World Down Syndrome Day
- Crazy Hair Day for Cystic Fibrosis
- National Pyjama Day to support children in care
- Money Line for the World Wildlife Fund
- Salvation Army Hamper of Hope
