Young students have a genuine interest and wonder about scientific nature. At Hillsmeade, teachers capture and nurture their curiosity about the world, engage them to be creative, use their imagination and help them explore scientifically, so students become scientifically literate.

The Science curriculum has two interrelated strands: Science Understanding and Science Inquiry Skills. Together, the two strands provide students with understanding, knowledge, and skills to develop a scientific view of the world.

Science at Hillsmeade Primary School

We are committed to explicitly teaching science weekly. We provide hands-on activities for the students to engage in a meaningful way. These activities encourage young children to identify and pose questions, plan, conduct and reflect on investigations, process, analyse and interpret evidence and communicate findings confidently.

Students explore various topics that cover several science understandings within the Biological, Chemical, Physical and Earth and space sciences. We accommodate the specific learning needs of all students and provide them with opportunities to develop a lifelong love of learning science.
