To improvise using sounds, actions and movement.

Lesson Information

  • This activity is to use improvisation and acting skills.
  • On a piece of paper write down a list of actions you could act out.
  • For example, doing a jigsaw puzzle, playing a board game, grocery shopping with a trolley, mowing the lawn, packing a suitcase, riding a bike, driving a car.
  • Ask someone in your family to call out an action and you then start acting out the sounds, actions and movements for that action.
  • You family members might also like to act them out.

Lesson 9

Learning Intention

To perform a short play.

Lesson Information

  • Perform your short play that you wrote in the previous lesson.
  • You can have the script in front of you as you perform or you might have memorised some of the dialogue.
  • Think of some costumes you could organise and wear for the characters in your play.
  • Some of your family members might like to be in your play with you.
  • Organise a stage area to perform your play.
  • Take some photos or video your play to email to me.
  • If you didn’t write a script, use one of the ideas and create a play this week.

Learning Intention

To create and write a short play.

Lesson Information

  • The Learning Task is to create a written script from one of the following ideas.
  • The ideas are – world’s smallest person found in a chip packet, talking dog found in the forest, aliens arrive on earth, world’s oldest person celebrates 198th birthday, a student has secret magic powers, talking cow found in a supermarket.
  • When you have chosen your idea, you need to write a script for the play.
  • You need to include the following headings in your script

Characters – The cast in the play.

Plot – What is going to happen in the play.

Setting – Where is the play happening?

Dialogue – What the actors say and how they say it.

Lesson 7

Learning Intention

To create animal shadow puppets with our hands.

Lesson Information

  • This activity is to make animal shadow puppets with your hands.
  • You can use the sunlight in the room and stand in front to make a shadow on the floor or wall.
  • You can also make a shadow by using a torch to shine on your puppet.
  • You can change the shape of a shadow by moving closer or further away and also turning and moving your body.
  • Using the images from the video, create the different animal shadow puppets using your hands.
  • See if your family would like to guess each animal that you make.

Lesson 6

Learning Intention

To play a drama game.

Lesson Information

  • Play the drama game ‘Freeze Frame’.
  • Write the following scenarios on a piece of paper and cut up each one.

– You have just seen Superman flying in the sky.

– You have just been splashed with mud.

– Opening a present.

– You are in the middle of a dance move.

– You are looking up at a giant.

– Having your photo taken.

– You are a robot.

  • Ask someone in your family to call out a scenario and you then freeze in a position to match the action you would be doing.

Lesson 5

Learning Intention

To design a new outfit for a favourite chapter book character.

Lesson Information

  • Choose a character from one of your favourite chapter books.
  • Design a new outfit for the character to wear.
  • Draw your outfit design and add any accessories to the outfit.
  • Write a short explanation about what they are wearing and what you have changed or added to the outfit.

Reflection

Share your finished outfit design with a member of your family.

Lesson 4

Learning Intention

To create a short play to perform.

Lesson Information

  • Create and act out a short play.
  • To plan your play think of the characters, setting, a problem and a solution.
  • Some ideas for your play could be – friendship, going into space in a rocket, going on a safari in the jungle, on a pirate ship to find treasure, eating at a restaurant.
  • You could also wear costumes you have at home or dress ups.
  • Ask members of your family to be the audience for your play or they may like to even join in.  

Reflection

Write a reflection about how your play went and what you enjoyed about the performance. Would you change anything?

Lesson 3

Learning Intention

To use improvisation skills.

Lesson Information

  • Play Charades with your family (this is where you don’t speak while you are acting)
  • Write on paper a list of actions you could act out. Here are some ideas – riding a bike, animals, movie characters, opening a present, rolling dice, going bowling, playing a guitar, using a yo-yo.
  • Cut up each action and put them in a hat or container.
  • Choose one from the hat and act it out for your audience. Your audience could be a member of your family.
  • The audience then have to guess your action. Your family members might also like to have a go.

Lesson 2

Learning Intention

To act and perform one of your favourite stories.

Lesson Information

  • Choose a picture story book that you like and act out the story.
  • You can read the story page first then act it out or ask a family member to be the narrator and read each page for you.
  • You might like to organise a costume to wear.
  • When performing, use a strong clear voice and think about how your character would sound.
  • You could ask members of your family to be the different characters with you or be in the audience to view the performance.

Reflection

Ask a member of your family to make a comment about your performance.

Lesson 1

Learning Intention

To draw a picture of the Performing Arts.

Lesson Information

  • Draw a picture of something you enjoy that is related to the Performing Arts.
  • It could be a picture of an activity you actually do outside school or enjoy to do.
  • You could draw yourself dancing, singing, acting, using dress ups, performing on stage in a concert, using puppets or making plays.
  • You may even like to draw a picture of a musical, movie or play you may have watched and enjoyed.

Reflection
