Lesson Information

The Rule of Thirds

• Using a camera/iPad/smartphone, practise taking photos of a subject using the rule of thirds.
• Turn on the grid on your device if possible.
• Position the subject in between two lines that cross.
• Take the photo.
• Try and find different subjects/colours/textures
• Try using the edit button to change and experiment with the filter or cropping your image.

Reflection

Share your photos with someone and tell them about the rule of thirds.

Learning Intention

To understand animation.

Lesson Information

Stop Motion Animation

• Download a stop motion app or use the camera function to take your photos.
• Position your toys or objects in their starting position.
• Place your device somewhere where it won’t move
• Take your first photo, then move your subject a small amount
• Take your next photo and repeat these steps until you have finished.
• If you used the camera app, you can scroll through these photos and it should move like an animation.

Lesson 6

To understand movie trailers.

Lesson Information

Movie Trailers

• Open iMovie on the iPad.
• If you don’t have iMovie, you can just film on a camera.
• Select New Project (+) and choose Movie Trailer.
• Select the template you want to use.
• Have a look at the different shots needed for this trailer.
• Go out and film each of your shots.
• Select the appropriate shots that match the suggestions in the template.
• Don’t forget to change the headings, titles and credits to match your story.
• Sit back, relax, and enjoy your trailer.

News Broadcasting

Watch a news story from BTN: https://www.abc.net.au/btn/classroom/what-is-a-treaty/10489008

• Go to Kidsnews.com.au
• Look at the different articles and chose one that interests you.
• Take notes while reading. You will want to find 10 important points from the article for you to report on in your news video.
• Set up your iPad to record yourself.
• Have your notes ready.
• Record yourself telling the story. Give the audience the information you gathered from kids news.
• Speak clearly and confidently.
• Listen back to your recording to check that it is clear and easy to understand.

Photography – Self Portraits

• Using a camera/iPad/smartphone, practise taking photos of yourself.
• Turn on the grid on your device if possible.
• Think about how you want to represent yourself.
• You could be doing an activity you love, showing a reflection of yourself.
• Frame the subject and make sure it is in focus by tapping on the screen.
• Take your photo.
• Select your photo in your photo library and review.
• Does the photo represent you?

Lesson Information

Documentaries

• Ask somebody if you are able to interview them.
• Have a series of questions ready. For example, Where were you born? What are your hobbies?
• Limit the background noise by finding a quiet place to record.
• Set up a camera and record your interview.
• Have the camera facing your subject.
• Make sure you are both close enough to be heard by the camera.

Animation – Flip Books

Watch this short video showing some awesome flip books:

• Find some paper/workbook and something to draw with.
• Cut your paper into small rectangles and clip them together at one end.
• Decide what will happen in your flip book. Keep it simple.
• Begin by drawing on the first page, in the open corner.
• On each consecutive page, redraw the same image as the prior page, but moved/changed slightly.
• Don’t forget to make it colourful and visually appealing so the audience will want to see this flip book.
• Have a flip through and see how your drawings come to life.
